The Guardian and the Wanderer
The forest had a way of keeping secrets.
Mist hung low between the trees, weaving through ancient trunks like a living thing. Nothing entered this place by accident, or so the wolf believed.
He had watched the forest longer than he could remember. Seasons shifted, rivers changed course, and creatures came and went, but he remained. Silent. Patient. A guardian, though no one had ever named him as such.
That morning, something was different.
A scent.
Not prey. Not danger.
Something… unfamiliar.
The wolf moved without sound, his paws barely disturbing the moss beneath him. He followed the scent deeper, past the old stones and the hollowed oak, to the clearing that no creature dared cross.
And there, standing in a beam of pale light, was the unicorn.
Its coat shimmered like frost at sunrise, and its mane drifted as if touched by a wind that did not exist. It lowered its head, examining the ground, as though searching for something lost.
The wolf did not step forward immediately.
Creatures like that did not belong here.
Or perhaps… they had not belonged anywhere for a long time.
A twig snapped beneath his weight.
The unicorn’s head lifted instantly.
For a moment, neither of them moved.
The forest held its breath.
The wolf expected fear. Most creatures ran. It was instinct.
But the unicorn did not run.
Instead, it took a step closer.
Curious.
The wolf narrowed his eyes, circling slightly, testing. Watching. Protecting.
“You are far from where you should be,” he seemed to say without words.
The unicorn tilted its head, as if understanding something deeper than sound.
And then it took another step forward.
Strange.
No fear. No hesitation.
The wolf paused. Something about this creature felt… familiar. Not in memory, but in purpose.
“Did you lose your way?” the silence between them asked.
The unicorn exhaled softly. A faint glow pulsed along its horn, and for a brief moment, the forest itself seemed to respond, the mist shifting, the leaves trembling, the light bending.
Not lost.
Searching.
The wolf turned his head toward the deeper woods, where even shadows hesitated to linger.
Few went there.
Fewer returned.
He looked back at the unicorn.
“You should not go further.”
But the unicorn stepped past him.
Not reckless.
Certain.
The wolf felt it then, not fear, but a quiet pull. The same force that had kept him rooted to this forest all his life.
Perhaps this was why.
He moved beside the unicorn.
Not in front. Not behind.
Together.
The path ahead twisted into darkness, thick with ancient roots and forgotten things. The air grew colder, heavier, as if the forest itself was warning them to turn back.
But neither did.
“What are we looking for?” the silence asked again.
The unicorn’s glow brightened, just slightly.
And for the first time, the wolf understood.
Not a place.
Not an object.
A change.
Something in the forest had shifted. Something unseen but deeply wrong.
And somehow, this wandering creature had felt it… and come.
The wolf’s role had always been to protect.
But perhaps protection was not always standing still.
Perhaps sometimes it meant moving forward, into the unknown, beside something you did not yet understand.
The deeper they went, the more the forest seemed to close behind them.
No turning back now.
The wolf glanced once at the unicorn.
“Are we ready for this?”
The unicorn did not answer.
But it did not stop.
And that was enough.
Together, they stepped beyond the edge of the known forest, into a place where even the guardian had never walked.
And whatever waited there… they would face it as one.

The Clockwork Unicorn Story
The city never slept.
Gears turned beneath its streets, towers ticked with mechanical precision, and even the wind seemed measured, regulated by unseen systems that kept everything in motion.
Nothing was left to chance.
Especially not magic.
Lio had heard the stories anyway.
The Last Light of Silver Lake Unicorn Story
The lake only appeared at dusk.
Travelers spoke of it in uncertain terms, some claimed it reflected the sky before it changed, others said it showed things that had not yet happened. Most dismissed it as a trick of fading light.
Elin did not.
She had followed the map precisely: three days along the ridge, past the broken birch, and into the valley where no birds sang. By the time she reached the clearing, the sun had already begun to fall.
The Quiet Unicorn of Silverwood
At the edge of Silverwood Forest, where the trees grew tall and the light filtered through in soft, shifting patterns, there lived a unicorn no one ever saw.
Her name was Lira.
The villagers spoke of her in passing, usually in the same way they spoke of the wind – something that was there, but never quite within reach. Some said she only appeared at dawn. Others believed she could only be seen by those who weren’t looking for her at all.
